Advanced grading workflows

In this section we will go over advanced grading workflows. This is a collection of tips and tricks that we compiled from specific questions from our users, presented to everyone for reference.

Locking objects size and moving like groups

In the event where you have accessories that are the same size across the grade but you want to group grade their position across your size run we present this workflow to help you achieve that quickly.

The initial situation is shown as follows, we are presenting a simplification to focus on the features and not on the design. In this situation we want the circles to stay of the same dimension across the grade but change their position according to a grading group, while the rest of the model will grade normally.

Note

The grade table for this file is something like this:

We have two groups: fixed is mapped to the sample size all across the size run, Group groups sizes in pairs. We want to use the latter to move the position of the circles.

Grading center setups

We will create a grading center for each circle and assign them to it. In our example:

  • Left circle is assigned to GC_2
  • Right circle is assigned to GC_1

Both GC_1 and GC_2 will grade like group fixed. The parent GC for 1 and 2 is GC_5, this is important as we will grade GC_5 like group Group in order to achieve the right movement.

For sake of demonstration in the above depiction GC_5 and GC_upper are in different locations but to achieve the correct result they should be in the same location, as seen below.

If everything is setup correctly when we grade we can see that the size of the two circles will not change across the grade and the positions are overlapping on groups of two. We display here the result with the stacking point on GC_1 to better demonstrate how the grading is flowing.

Changing a model size

It may happen that sometimes you develop a model and during the grading you realize that the created model is another size than the originally intended one. We want to detail here how to change the size with ease.

Let's assume that we start with a size 8 sample and we realize that we want to change this to be 8.5.

We want to keep the same model as before but change the sample size but we want to update to the new size. We use the "set as sample size without grading" from the contextual menu of the grading panel. That will prompt you if you want to update the measurements or not and then the new size will be highlighted as the sample size.

Note

You can later change the sample size again (using the grading) to then correct the model to have the required sample size. In general you can mix and match the two options for changing the sample size to the desired results.
