J_SetLayering

Open the layering dialog

The layering is the arrangement of the model parts by their physical overlap order in the shoe making process. With this command you can set a different material to each part and check which will be visible when the shoe will be built. You can also check the difference between each size in term of visibility percentages.

The layering dialog is structured as follows:

  • on the left side you can manage materials, parts and material ways.
  • on the central part the preview image of the layering is shown
  • on the right side you can see the current visible materials percentages, you can export the current image or a color report or you can compare the percentages of materials used between different sizes

Find it in: JPattern Parts toolbar

Steps

Note that at least one part must be present in the model to activate the command.

  1. Trigger the command
  2. Manage materials:
    1. You can add some materials to the bottom-left material color map, assigning a color and renaming them if desired, by clicking the Add a new material button
    2. If you need to delete a material, just click on the Delete a material button
  3. Manage parts in the parts list:
    1. Assign the desired materials to the parts, by clicking on the material button next to each part preview
    2. It is possible to toggle the visibility of each part, by clicking on the bulb icon next to each part preview
    3. Parts can also be reordered to obtain the desired layering result. To move a part select its row and click on the up/down arrow above the parts list
  4. Create/duplicate/reload a material way:
    1. You can create a new material way from scratch by clicking on the button with the "+" icon; provide a name for the new material way and all parts are reset to default material and default visibility; the parts' materials and visibilities can then be edited as described above
    2. Instead, if you want to apply a small change in the current material way, you can duplicate it by clicking the Clone the current material way button
    3. You can reload a previously created material way by selecting it in the combo box on the top-left of the dialog
    4. Finally, you can delete the current material way by clicking on the Delete the current material way button
  5. Adjust the preview image options:
    1. You can set the dimension of the preview image in the Set output image width input, above the parts list
    2. The preview image can be manaully refreshed by clicking the Refresh button on the top-right of the dialog OR by pressing R
    3. If you want to automatically refresh the preview at each change, activate the automatically refresh preview checkbox (Note that an automatic refresh can slow down the dialog speed if there are a lot of complex parts loaded)
  6. Check used material percentages, compare sizes and export reports:
    1. On the right side of the dialog you can see the used material percentages, based on the current layering. To update the percentages after applying some changes, click on the refresh button (unless the automatic refresh is active)
    2. If a grade table has been added to the model, you can select a size to display its layering on the preview image by seelcting it in the combo box on the bottom right
    3. If a grade table has been added to the model, you can compare the used material percentages between different sizes by clicking on the Compare different sizes button
    4. When satisfied with your layering, you can export an image by clicking on the Export image button OR by pressing E; you can also export a more detailed report including an image and the material percentages by clicking on the Export color report button OR by pressing C
  7. Click OK to save the current configuration; press Esc OR close the dialog to quit without saving

Remarks

  • All changes applied to the parts (material assignment, visibility toggle, etc.) are saved to the current selected material way
  • When deleting a material from the material color map, the user will be asked if the default material must be applied to all parts (in all material ways) using such material
  • The material ways created/copied are temporary (they are not saved upon dialog closing)
  • The material color map is saved so that you can find your frequently used materials already loaded each time you open the layering utility
